Manila – In a press conference today, Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre hinted at the possible involvement of Pope Francis in the pork barrel scam as relayed to him by the legal counsel of its alleged mastermind, Janet Lim Napoles.
Aguirre said that Napoles’ lawyer Stephen David told him that also included in the scam are known critics of President Duterte and his administration such as Senators Leila de Lima, Franklin Drilon and Antonio Trillanes IV, and former budget secretary Florencio Abad.
“They are planning to file a case before the DOJ,” said Aguirre. “Atty David didn’t tell me the extent of their involvement but I think Napoles also mentioned Pope Francis in the affidavit.”
During the campaign period, it can be remembered the Duterte cursed Pope Francis during his visit to the Philippines for causing a massive traffic in Manila while Duterte was also in town.
“We are not doing this to harass our political opponents; this is justice!” Aguirre said with his fist in the air.
