Cayetano Secures TRO vs the Use of Candies in Campaign

Taguig City – Vice-presidential candidate Alan Peter Cayetano secured a temporary restraining order against the use of innocent candies in the election campaigns. The TRO is effective until May 10.

The TRO was issued by a close friend in the Taguig court because no Makati court judge would grant it. “It puts our own candidate in a bad light,” says Makati Judge Elpidio Calis, referring to Makati-based presidential candidate Jejomar Binay. “His actions to make poor people happy are being taken out of context and used to slam him.”

According to Cayetano, the use of candies sways people from using their fair judgment in exchange for a few minutes of sweetness with a hint of tangy flavor. Some voters who received the candies testify to the good quality of the edible products, albeit only short-lasting.

The other candidates, however, expressed their disappointment over Cayetano’s action saying it violates their right to use candies within the rule of law.
