Cong. Arroyo on the Way to Full Recovery After Case Dismissal

Quezon City – Following the dismissal of the plunder charges against her, former President and current Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is on her way to full recovery, say doctors.

Arroyo has been suffering from severe neck pain caused by a pinched nerve and has been required to wear a neck brace by doctors during the whole duration of her hospital arrest since 2011. She has undergone treatment for the condition and has always appeared to wear her neck brace in public.

The former president was arrested in November 2011 for rigging the 2007 elections. She was able to post bail in 2012 but was arrested again for plunder charges after she was accused of stealing 399 million pesos from the PCSO during her term as president.

On Tuesday, July 19, the Supreme Court has decided in favor of Arroyo to junk the plunder charges filed against her. Eleven justices, including the 8 that she had appointed during her term, voted to acquit Arroyo.

Her doctors are optimistic saying that her condition is steadily getting better since the release of the court’s decision.

“She has shown tremendous progress in this few hours that it is absolutely possible for her not to wear a neck brace anymore,” said one of her doctors. “She probably won’t need her wheelchair as well.”
